Review by: Arthur Grant
C.H. Spurgeon is often refereed to as the Prince of Preachers. If you
have had any opportunity to read his works or hear him quoted you know what a
brilliant mind this man of God had.
His sermons have stood the test of
time. His exposition of the scriptures even now sets the standard for
clarity and purpose. Few have equaled Spurgeons practical understanding of
the scriptures, even fewer have been as prolific in publishing their work as was
Charles Spurgeon.
AGES Digital Library has done the entire English speaking
world a favor by publishing an incredible compellation of Spurgeons works
including the entire collection of sermons from the Metropolitan Tabernacle
Pulpit and the Park Street Pulpit on one CD for a meager $59.95 plus shipping
and handling. More over the same CD works with Window 3.1, 95, 98 or on
your Macintosh. It will even run on a 386. There is absolutely no
excuse not to own this CD.
It is my opinion that with very little editing
you could easily preach the 3,561 sermons contained in the 63 Volumes that make
up the Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit and the Park Street Pulpit collections and
never bore the true believer’s in your congregation or fail to be relevant.
As you can see, the C.H. Spurgeon Collection contains far more than could be
read in the short time that I have had to prepare this review. In
addition to the aforementioned 63 Volumes of sermons the CD contains such
fabulous works as the Exposition of the Doctrines of Grace, Able to the
Uttermost, Infant Salvation, Morning and Evening Devotional and the Words of
Christ on the Cross.
I should mention here that some of Spurgeons works such
as the Morning and Evening Devotional take on a strongly anti Catholic
tone. Preaching in England from the middle of the Nineteenth Century to
the beginning of the Twentieth Century Mr. Spurgeon was well aware of the price
paid by the reformers to even be able to own a Bible in ones native tongue much
less to preach the true Gospel of Grace by faith alone to thousands weekly as he
did. The set contains more than 70 books and lectures in addition to
the sermons.
It is hard to believe that this rich collection of teaching was
preached in packed churches to thousands weekly in a country that today is so
spiritually dry that attendance of a few dozen to hear the pure words of God
from the Bible are considered good.
AGES Digital Library claims this CD to
be the most complete collection of Charles Spurgeon’s writings, available in
print or electronically. I have no reason to doubt the claim to
which could be added the most affordable collection in print or electronically
as well.
The real key is the fact that this is an electronic collection with
all the advantages of being able to search for key words, concepts, books and
phrases. Whatever biblical subject you want to know of from God becoming a
man to Infant Salvation you will find it in this collection and can cut and
paste the information directly into your sermons or personal study notes.
