Want a Place to Show Off Your Talents?  Would you like to win a blue ribbon?  The San Diego Fair and the Orange County Fair have announced their themes for 2007.  "A Salute to Heros" is this year's theme of the San Diego Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds from June 8 through July 4.  The Orange County Fair is celebrating "Cowabunga"- The year of Herefords, Surfers and Sand from July 13 to August 5. Both fairs have web sites where you can browse the Competition Handbooks, rules and regulations, and enter the contests.  One of our favorites is "Make a Child Smile." Your stuffed animal or blanket is judged then donated to a local hospital to become a sick child's new companion.  Visit the fair's websites at http://www.sdfair.com and http://www.ocfair.com

The Ocean Institute will have crafts and lectures to round out the event.  For more information and schedule http://www.festivalofwhales.com/contact.html The Auto Club 500 is one of the premire dates on the NASCAR circuit. Fresh from the Daytona 500 the Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing held February 15th the teams roll into the Auto Club 500. There is a lot of change from this year from the introduction of Toyota with fan favorite Michael Waltrip, to the first full season without great drivers like Rusty Wallace.

New blood has filled the seats of many familiat cars and  older drivers like Dale Earnhardt Junior are trying to prove they aren't living on thier dads glory.

The February race at Fontana carries over the buzz from Daytona, the weather is mild and the seats are full so don't wait for the last minute to get your tickets. http://www.californiaspeedway.com/tickets/

Your Fishing Spot on the Web
The college and pro football seasons are upon us. The baseball playoffs are about to start and basket ball and hockey are around the corner. May of our young people look up to these athletes and attempt to emulate their behavior and what they see on ESPN. Are you kids looking to Kobe Bryant, Matt Leinart, Drew Bress or are they looking to the Lord Jesus Christ. Have you talked to them about the values they base their lives on?
The Legend Dates Back Centuries....

Mission San Juan Capistrano will present its annual Return of the Swallows celebration Sunday March 18th to Monday March 19th, 2007. Festivities include the traditional bell ringing, Pageantry, live entertainment, ethnic foods, and vendors all to mark the springtime return of the swallows to Capistrano. Highlights include Living History Members, scheduled Docent tours, artisans demonstrating crafts, mariachi performers, school choirs and performers, Indian dance groups, ethnic foods and much more.

The swallows migrate annually to Goya, Argentina in October, and return to their spring and summer home in San Juan Capistrano each March. The Swallows celebration began centuries ago when Mission padres observed that the birds return roughly coincided with St. Joseph's Day on the church calendar, March 19. The celebration has achieved international prominence since then.

This fair has fun for everyone - shows, crafts, exhibits, rides and of course food.  For the past 60 years Riverside County has been  entertaining families.  This year's fun includes Pig races, Kobert's Amazing Bird Show, Rosaire's Bears and a nightly Salute to America. Go to: www.datefest.org for more information on the fair and tickets.

A baseball game is a great way to spend an afternoon with  family.  Visit the websites for ticket information and schedules.
Have you taken your children fishing? This is a great way to share quality and quantity time with your children friends and family. Our Lord Jesus Christ had a special place in his heart for fishermen. Several times in scripture we see him enjoying fish dinners and even once cooking fish himself for the disciples. In Southern California we are blessed with an abundance of fresh and saltwater fishing opportunities

Reading For Fun

There are so many things distracting us from the simple act of reading a book.  Many children don't like to read or don't know the pleasures of reading for fun.  Many would rather listen to music, play a video game or watch TV.  All are fine, just not all the time.  Introducing your kids to reading for fun opens them up to many possabilities.  They might find a new interest, learn something new or just get a chance to use their imagination. Visit your local library to spend a quiet afternoon reading or attending a lecture.  Libraries are a great place to introduce a reluctant reader to worlds of reading or discover a new author.  Get your child their own library card.  We used to go to our local library every couple of weeks, stop for ice cream and talk about what we had read.  It opened a lot of discussions about life and how God would want us to behave in a particular situation.

Have your children read a book they want to tell other kids about?   Tell us about books that are worth reading at: SCCE-NEWS

Happy Valentine's Day...Do you know the origins of Valentine's Day?

Hearts with arrows     For centuries people in love have been giving flowers, candy and little gifts in heart shaped boxes on February 14th. Why?  That is sort of a mystery shrouded in tradition and myth. We all know that it is in honor of  the patron St. Valentine.  February has long been a month of romance and has both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.

One legend tell of a priest named Valentine who served in Rome during the 3rd century.  Emperor Claudius II decreed that single men were better soldiers  and outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing this was an injustice, he defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Another story tells about Valentine actually senting the first 'valentine' greeting himself.  Valentine was imprisoned and fell in love with his jailor's daughter who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, Valentine wrote the girl a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today.

In  the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

Today, February 14 has become a day to remind those around us that we love them.  Spread the love...make a donation to your favorite charity.

Behold Your God" and Isaiah 40:9
by Avi Snyder, Jews for Jesus European Director

Imagine this: Jewish people throughout the world hearing the gospel in terms they can understand—maybe even for the first time! Between March 2001 and October 2006, Jews for Jesus plans to launch an outreach in every city worldwide that has a Jewish population of 25,000 or more. The work will take place in approximately 65 different cities; half in the United States and half in the remaining countries of the world. We're calling this project "Operation Behold Your God." The heart of our endeavor is found in Isaiah 40:9:

O Zion, you who bring good tidings, get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, you who bring good tidings, lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" (text continues )

The Liberated Wailing Wall
Free MP3 a Gift From Jews For Jesus

Laguna BeachThe Liberated Wailing Wall is our mobile evangelistic music team. For over 30 years they have been bringing "Jewish Gospel music," testimony and drama to churches, college campuses and city streets. Over one hundred and twenty individuals have traveled as part of this team and tens of thousands of non-believing Jewish people have heard the gospel through their ministry. The Liberated Wailing Wall has taken many international tours and recorded 11 albums, including their latest, Behold Your God. Their music could be described as a combination of Israeli folk and Fiddler on the Roof!

To qualify, you must be a Jewish believer in Jesus (or married to one), be able to sing in tune and preferably play an instrument, and be physically and spiritually fit for the demands of this mobile lifestyle. Each team trains for three months and tours for 15 months.

In order to be mobile and sound their best, the Liberated Wailing Wall relies on the their bus driver/sound engineer. This person does not have to be Jewish, but needs a Class B commercial driver's license with air brake and passenger endorsements, bus driving experience, and a basic knowledge of tools and vehicle maintenance (audio experience is a plus).

Our job is never done—people always need us—every single day. Please help us continue our lifesaving work, with a secure online gift today!

Hurricane Katrina set off the largest, most costly disaster relief operation in American history. Such colossal disasters make the news—but most emergencies don't. A house fire or a loved one needing CPR may not be newsworthy, but they're a tragedy for those involved. In every single case, it is the mission of the American Red Cross to be there and help those in need—whether disaster strikes thousands of people at once...or one family in the middle of the night.

While large disasters capture the headlines, it is more important than ever to support your local Red Cross in their daily work. In just the last year, Red Cross chapters around the country have responded to more than 70,000 disasters, such as house and apartment fires.
